It was an amazing day in Richmond County School System as the Curriculum and Instruction Team began to look at designing a Modern Curriculum that “banned the average” and instead “designed to the edges”!
The team explored personality shapes and their own learning preferences as we began to think about how to design curriculum that will take into account learner profiles and all the possible learning pathways that each unique individual might take as they learn new content, process that information and show evidence of their learning.
Parking Lot Ah-Ha: “I really wanted to be a squiggle but found out I was a square!” Parking Lot +: “I really loved the Learning Pathway activity.”
The team also completed a curriculum review, drafted several options for their Common Unit Plan Template, explored the development of a K-12 Continuum of Learning for the core content areas and looked at identifying priority and supporting standards.
Parking Lot Ah-Ha: “This type of planning requires you to think deep.” Parking Lot Ah-Ha: “This is going to be a different type of curriculum writing.” Parking Lot Ah-Ha: “Modernization of learning is rooted in the change of the learning thought process rather than a change in resources.”
It was a very busy day filled with meaningful conversations, deep reflection, a sense of purpose and excitement. Richmond County School System…looking forward to the journey!
