Partnering to Personalize Learning At Scale

Alexandria, Va. and Denver, Colo. – Feb. 7, 2018 – AASA, The School Superintendents Association and Modern Teacher have formed a strategic partnership to scale modern learning in K-12 school districts nationwide through the Digital Convergence Framework, an approach to modernize classrooms across an entire school district.

The traditional classroom of the 20th century continues to exist in the U.S. This is due not to a lack of technological or pedagogic innovation, but to gaps in organizational and industry alignment that prevents innovation from impacting today’s school buildings. This partnership aims to enhance the unification of the education system, the student experience and, most importantly, improve student outcomes.

Through the partnership, AASA and Modern Teacher will establish a national consensus for best practices to bridge the gap between the traditional classroom and the accelerated rate of advancement, while promoting a cultural shift so that districts are primed for innovation and can better connect the student experience with the demands of culture, society and the economy.

“Superintendents and district leadership across the county recognize the need for a holistic solution to modernize classrooms at scale, where single-point solutions have not produced anticipated results,” explained Dr. Shawn Smith, Modern Teacher president. “This partnership with AASA has the opportunity to substantially impact the future of public education in our country by giving our educational leaders a road map to facilitate real, measurable and meaningful change.”
“We are seeing more and more school districts creating dynamic digital environments not only for the benefit of their students, but for the communities in which they live. That’s why our partnership with Modern Teacher is so critical,” said Daniel A. Domenech, AASA executive director. “This partnership will serve as a catalyst to modernizing how children learn, which is an essential factor for success in our public schools.”

The Digital Convergence Framework provides a pathway for school districts to achieve their goals — to align existing organizational infrastructure and reshape the experience for students, and facilitate a cultural shift that will keep districts at the leading edge of advancement organizationally. Districts partnering with Modern Teacher form a national network, which collaborates to progress through the Framework’s seven stages across five drivers of the education system. The drivers include Leadership, Instructional Models, Modern Curriculum, Digital Ecosystem and Professional Learning. This systematic transition has helped districts across the country revolutionize instructional design and effectively transition traditional classrooms to modern learning environments.

To commence the partnership, Modern Teacher will recognize districts reaching Stages 3 and above in the Framework at their upcoming National Conference on Digital Convergence in Jacksonville, Florida. These districts in the latter stages of the Digital Convergence Framework have achieved key milestones toward personalized learning at scale and serve as exemplars for their peers in Modern Teacher’s National Network.

Beyond the national conference, AASA and Modern Teacher will inform district leaders about the Framework through Regional and National Leadership Forums to build momentum for this revolutionary methodology.
